Health

Hospital

We are building a One Stop Shop modern hospital on the Atlantic Coast of Nicaragua.  The Board is currently searching for a suitable site to build a hospital that will house an emergency room, acute care, maternity ward, specialty clinics, in-patient and out-patient services, administrative offices, etc.  many people of the Atlantic Coast are faced with certain death because of lack medical specialists, equipment, and upgraded medical facility.

Relief Program

Hurricane Felix

SCA has taken the vanguard of a relief effort in Northern California to aid the victims of hurricane Felix.  A Northern California Emergency Relief Coalition was formed by various organizations like Alma Pinolera, Frater-Nica, Unidad Nicaragüense de Amistad (UNA), ADINE, Moravian Church, Nicaraguan American Chamber of Commerce, CARECEN and SCA.  Through efforts of the Coalition, more than $10,000 was raised.  A 40 foot container of relief was sent to Nicaragua on the 4th of October.  On the 17th, a delegation of two SCA Board members will travel to the disaster area to deliver aids and provide medical atention in Waspan.

Education

Public Libraries

This program was created to suplement current public education efforts.  We plan to build two public libraries.  One library will be built in Bilwi and a second public library in Bluefields.  There are no public libraries in any of the two cities.  However, Bluefields had a public library that was distroyed by hurricane Joan in 1988.  A public library will benefit over 50,000 people each year in each city.

Social Program

Our Land Our Culture

This program was approved by the Board of Directors to support current efforts of the Demarcation of Lands in the Atlantic Coast of Nicaragua and advocate on behalf of all Costeños inside and outside of the Atlantic Coast of Nicaragua.  This program will monitor the progress of current efforts within Nicaragua.  Laws 445 (Autonomy Law) and 28 (Demarcation Law) are published on our website for our people to view and/or download.

John Berry Annual Canoe Race and Community Fair

We are planning a John Berry Annual Canoe Race and Community Fair in different cities of the Atlantic Coast of Nicaragua. The goal of this event is to bring our people together while reducing the use of illegal drugs and bring necessary community resources to our people.  John Berry was one of our visionaries who recently passed away. He was very active within his community.  He sponsored a local soccer team in his home community of El Bluff, ouside of Bluefields.  This event depends soly on individual contributions.  It will not happen unless you get involve by financially supporting this project.
