Mr. William Robert Hooker Joyner died of a heart attack in Guatemala after a long period of illnesses. He was hospitalized for about a month in the Juan De Dios General Hospital of Guatemala City. Mr Hooker was one of the most famous Nicaraguan baseball players from the Atlantic Coast. Mr. Hooker was a pitcher in the early stage of Nicaragua baseball. Willie was born in Bluefields, where begun playing baseball in 1956. He won two of three national championship games for the Atlantic Coast against the Managua team Luz y Fuerza. This victory made him one of Nicaragua's most famous players at the time. During the late 50's, willie played for San Fernando and later for the Boer. Willie is best remembered for his breaking curves, which he used to dominate some of Nicaragua's best batters. Willie made it as far as A and AAA of the major leagues. He played for the White Sox. In 2002, Willie was inducted in the Nicaraguan Baseball Hall of Fame. So long Willie. We Salute you.

Guy Downs was a well knowned son of Bluefields and Corn Island died in the Military Hospital in Managua. Our deepest symphaty with his wife Elsa, his children Luis Alberto, Mayra, Melissa, and Danilo.

John Berry died on September 7th, 2007. Our brother John Berry suffered a stroke in Miami, Florida on Tuesday, September 4th, 2007. Per the doctors, he was not expected to recover. John Berry is one of the original last thinkers and proponent of uniting the people of the Atlantic Coast. He traveled along with a delegation of leaders throughout the US trying to jump start Unidad Costeņa International (UCI). We all know John for his gentle and happy behaviour. Our hearts and prayers goes out to his family.
